Sleep
The WSHE, originally risen from the ashes of Mount Giluwe, now goes to sleep. After three years of cultural observation and reflection, the Wattled Smoky Honeyeater will now take a nap. See you soon.
Our Love,
Clay, Will, & Tyler.

Flooding in the Mississippi
Story on recent flooding in the Mississippi via NPR
This story does a great job at showcasing the stalwart character and positive perspective that people from all over the South seem to have.
Choice quotes:
In response to the Army Corp of Engineers opening the floodgates in his area:
“I’m lookin to be fair with everybody. If I have to give something up, I have to give it...

I know it doesn’t really make sense, but all I can think is, “This is like if Fleet Foxes were good at basketball.” Megafaun. Best band. (buy Heretofore)

“Headed Home” (A short I made last week on a foggy commute home)
I see this every day. After hours in an office, in front of a virtual world, it’s great to experience movement. The slow arch up over the bridge, above the water, buildings on both sides that snake along the river, obscured by mist. Down the other side of the bridge, towards home, the first stop. Details of life...

What a creative person! The RAWness of the music doesn’t mask it, but actually showcases the quirky ideas that form it. This lady has a ton of charisma/ confidence/ mojo.
Enjoy.

A Google Developer made a website that creates music based on which NYC subways are running.
He used a map of the subway system, with a note hit each time a subway crossed another’s path, determining pitch by the distance traveled.

I can’t sleep. It’s 5 AM. I need to write this all down so I can stop thinking about it.
I work evenings and get home very late, usually around 12:30 or 1 AM. When I got home a few hours ago, I found that my key wouldn’t open my apartment door. I had had this trouble with the door to the building…

The Early Bird Gets It (Guest Post)
The time is 7:21. Just woke up around 6:30, not for any particular reason except to enjoy the day to the fullest. I’ve found that if you wake up early it’s almost like saying to yourself “Yes today is going to be a great day.” Then after a while you start getting used to waking up early and going to bed early and after a while it doesn’t become a chore anymore, just a...

Growth
The only way to keep anything alive and then hopefully allow it to thrive, is to let it grow.
Developing and contributing to the Wattled Smoky Honey-Eater has been a pet project for us for almost 3 years now, and over that time we’ve all moved, physically, spiritually, and creatively. During this growth, the idea arose to put the WSHE on hiatus. Postings were less frequent, we felt less...

“This song’s about a parade that happened in New York City, uh, which is called the Mermaid Parade, it takes, it takes place out on Coney Island, and, um, this is, this is a song about that parade, and it’s not about nothin’ else, it’s just about that parade.” – Matthew Houck ...
It smells like clam chowder in the office. Like hot low tide. And it’s making me hungry as I open the mail, hi-lite the names, and stamp the date.
Open, hi-lite, stamp, set aside, repeat. And endless supply of mail, of college hopefuls sending applications and essays explaining every last detail of how curious they are about the world, how wrong injustice is, and how full of wonder the...

Midtown Comics.
Raph—short for Raphael—reminds me of Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons, though they look nothing alike. Raph is considerably less portly so his red staff shirt fits fully over his stomach; and his short, balding black hair isn’t pulled back into an offensive ponytail. He’s clean-shaven and breaking out in some places, and his tired, thin eyes don’t stare with the judgment of comic book...

Hi. I’m Tyler.
I don’t post often because I don’t have much to post about, in the most literal sense: I’m only really using this blog to write about or respond to music I love, and I don’t feel that way, that passionately, about music often. When I do, I tend to stay in that relationship for a while; I don’t want to bore you with fifty posts about the Sam...
